The Wave!

 “The Wave” hike

Had a little jaunt out West this last week of March 2024 to an iconic trail hike called the Wave.  It is a little hike out Wire Pass Trail just outside Kanab UT.  Rebecca’s Canal Zone friend,  John Magee had been chosen for the hike and we were lucky enough to have the time off to join him.

We stayed in a little converted/modernized motel in Kanab called the Flagstone Inn and Botique.  What a cool little high desert mountain town, kind of felt like what Moab must’ve been like 30 years ago.

We hiked two trails at the Coyote Buttes North off of the Wire Pass Trailhead.

The first day was into a slot canyon that was nothing short of spectacular.  We logged 7 miles through mostly the slot, and on the last mile, we got “sleet in the slot” as the weather turned a tad inclement.

The second day was the iconic Wave, and words cannot describe the beauty of the geographical feature that was 3 miles from the trailhead.  We were the first out there in the morning, leaving the parking lot just at sunrise.  As a result, we probably had 40 minutes of solitude at the  Wave without distraction from other hikers.  Arriving there after starting the hike in Utah, and crossing the state line into Arizona.  The trail is not very well marked, and we relied heavily on the All Trails app.  And, even more so than the day before, this was such a beautiful feature that I can only let the pictures speak for themselves.

A wonderful 2 days with Rebecca and I, John, and Andrea B., our Cocoa Beach friend.
